Filing a human rights complaint may sound intimidating, but the process has been deliberately kept simple so that even the most vulnerable citizen can seek justice. Complaints can be filed with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) or the respective State Human Rights Commission, depending on the nature and location of the violation.

You may file a complaint in writing, by post, by fax, or online through the official NHRC portal. The complaint should clearly state the name of the victim, the date and place of the incident, and the alleged violator. No court fee is required, and you may file the complaint in any Indian language.

After the complaint is registered, the Commission seeks a report from the concerned authority, conducts an enquiry if necessary, and may recommend compensation or disciplinary action. FFYR Human Rights Council assists citizens in drafting and submitting such complaints free of cost.
